[Commlist] new UK journalism report published

Thu Jun 16 21:18:51 GMT 2022

Some of you may be interested in a report just published under the auspices of the Charitable Journalism Project (CJP) on “news deserts”. It is the result of several months empirical investigation in 7 UK locations, primarily written by Dr Steven Barclay (formerly a doctoral student at Westminster, now at City) and was a collaborative effort between Westminster, Kings and Sussex, funded by the Joseph Rowntree Reform Trust.

It was launched yesterday in the House of Commons and is designed to informed policy debates around the decline of local journalism, the dangers to democracy, and the need for a more flexible charitable regime to generate more philanthropic contributions for public interest journalism.

There is an electronic link to a downloadable PDF on the CJP website here: https://cjproject.org/research-projects/ <https://cjproject.org/research-projects/>.
