  Responsibilities:
Duties include academic services in the project named above. Research associates may also pursue independent research and further academic qualifications.

Specific Duties:
Research in the frame of the interdisciplinary project “Poetry in the Digital Age”, funded by the European Research Foundation (ERC).

Position 1: Research in Sub-Project 1, dealing with “Audioliterary Poetry between Performance and Mediatization”. The sub-project investigates the relationship between poetry on the page, on the stage, as video or audio recordings. It examines three fields: live poetry performances, created through the co-presence of audience and performer; mediatized spoken poetry, e.g. recordings of events published or posted on modular websites; contemporary audio poetry: spoken poems, professionally recorded in studios. For this position, preference will be given to individual projects researching new forms of live poetry performances: Spoken Word, Slam Poetry, or other (experimental) forms of reading and performing poetry.

Position 2: Research in Sub-Project 2, dealing with “Music(alization) and the Lyric: Recent Medial Correlations”. The sub-project inquires into the impact of digitalization on musical poetry. It examines poets who perform with musicians or sound artists, who manipulate their voices digitally or use fully synthesized voices in their performances, who add sounds or electronic beats to audio recordings, as well as other hybrid genres between music and poetry. Furthermore, it investigates voice, rhythm, and melody in poetry in relation to music (e.g. poetry performers using rap styles).

For this position, preference will be given to individual research projects focusing on contemporary poetry accompanied by or set to music of any genre (art music, experimental music, pop music etc.) in the form of live performances, audio recordings and/or poetry video clips.

Position 3: Research in Sub-Project 3, dealing with “Poetry and Contemporary Visual Culture”. The sub-project investigates contemporary forms of (audio-)visual poetry. It examines the iconic and kinetic scripts as innovative elements of digital visual poetry and explores functions of algorithms and source code. Furthermore, the sub-project researches popular online phenomena, such as contemporary poetry on social media sites, focusing on the interrelation of aesthetics and sociopolitical potentials. The research associate is particularly supposed to inquire a third, scarcely researched object, namely current poetry films – a manifold genre of poetic image-sound combinations. The project could, for example, explore the extensive archive of Zebra Poetry Film Festival Berlin, with whom the project collaborates.
