Today, there are many ways in which the human and social sciences use digital resources and technology to investigate different aspects of human life. As the significance and use of digital resources continually expands into new fields of study, there are some disciplines which have already been working with digital data for decades. As such, researchers now produce and have access to an increasing range of different digital materials, offering new opportunities for interdisciplinary scholarly work and enabling certain data to be approached from different viewpoints and with novel and diverse methodologies.

The Digital Research Data and Human Sciences (DRDHum 2022) conference aims to bring together researchers who have different areas of interest and expertise to discuss the themes of data compilation and management, and to share their knowledge and experience of using digital materials, methods, and data analysis tools. We are especially keen for researchers and research groups who have implemented interdisciplinary research to participate in the event. We are inviting scholars of all ages and experience, teachers, graduate students, and any other parties that might be interested to participate and contribute to this event.

DRDHum 2022 is organized by the University of Jyväskylä in collaboration with FIN-CLARIAH. The event is the second in a series of conferences that, postponed once because of COVID, will normally take place every other year in one of the FIN-CLARIN Consortium universities (part of CLARIAH Finland – a research infrastructure for social sciences and the humanities). The first (D)RDHum Conference was hosted at the University of Oulu in 2019, where the focus was specifically on linguistic text corpora. The second conference – at the University of Jyväskylä – will have a wider scope. Not only will the event look at the use of digital resources and technologies in fields such as the social sciences, language and communication sciences, and behavioural sciences (for instance), but discussions this year are also encouraged to go beyond textual data and also look at multimodal forms such as social media data, grid databases, and big data.

Submissions of individual papers, posters, workshops and tutorials are welcome but not limited to:

  * Humanities and social research in the fields of e.g.

      o digital media studies
      o digital journalism studies
      o technology-mediated communication

      o digital history

*Submission guidelines *

Authors are invited to submit an abstract for theoretical or empirical work (maximum length 500 words), which should indicate the research questions, data and methods used, and any (tentative) results if applicable.

Besides oral and poster presentations, the conference offers a venue for thematic workshops and tutorials. Workshops will address a particular topic within the general theme of the conference, whereas tutorials can deal with specific types of resources, software, or methods. Workshops and tutorials can also be designed with specific interest groups in mind, such as degree or postgraduate students. The chair/s of the workshop or tutorial will be required submit an abstract (500 words) introducing the proposed topic, the aim of the event and the expected audience. A list of those workshops and tutorials which have been accepted will then be announced on the conference website. After this, submissions to the workshops or tutorials themselves can then be made, following further instructions that will have been given by the organizers.

We therefore invite the following types of submissions:

1. Abstract for an *oral presentation* (20 min + 10 min for discussion) or poster presentation (500 words)

or

2. Proposal for a *workshop or tutorial* (500 words).

Access the submission forms through the conference website at: https://www.jyu.fi/en/congress/drdhum2022/submission-of-proposals <https://www.jyu.fi/en/congress/drdhum2022/submission-of-proposals>

3. We also offer the opportunity to submit *an article* for a publication to be issued at the conference. These peer-reviewed articles will be included in proceedings of the Digital Research Data and Human Sciences Conference 2022. The publication will be openly and permanently available online. The instructions for the authors will be available on the conference website at the beginning of February.

*Important dates *
