[Commlist] Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Race and Ethnicity in the UK Film Sector

The Institute of Advanced Studies, University College London, is 
inviting applications for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Race and 
Ethnicity in the UK Film Sector.

Based within UCL’s Faculty of Arts and Humanities, the Postdoctoral 
Research Fellow will work on ‘The Colour of Diversity: A Longitudinal 
Analysis of BFI Diversity Standards Data and Racial Inequality in the UK 
Film Industry’, a three-year project funded by the Arts and Humanities 
Research Council (AHRC). The appointment is for 24 months (0.6 FTE) in 
the first instance to begin on 1 September 2022 and will involve working 
closely with the project’s primary collaborators, the British Film 
Institute.

The successful candidate will be required to provide expert, specialist 
and professional input in cultural approaches to race and ethnicity in 
the creative industries. They will also help to support the research 
strategy for the publication and dissemination of research outputs, 
including helping to draft policy recommendations and reports.

They will take a leading role in data collection and analysis, textual 
analysis, collaborative methodologies, event co-ordination and in the 
online presentation of the research project. The Postdoctoral Research 
Fellow post will also involve regional and international travel.

This post is suitable for an exceptional candidate with an up-to-date 
understanding of these areas, its implications on various fields of 
contemporary society and culture, and a good track record of research 
writing in the field. The candidate will hold a PhD in Film Studies, 
Media/Communication Studies, Sociology or a related discipline with a 
demonstrable emphasis on race, racism representation and inequality.
