    College of Design is a global leader in art and design education and
    has had an international reputation for its rigorous,
    transdisciplinary curriculum, faculty of professionals, strong ties
    to industry, and commitment to socially responsible design. We are
    an independent, nonprofit, four-year college offering a Bachelor of
    Fine Arts or Bachelor of Science degree in ten specialized programs
    and graduate degrees in four art and design disciplines.


    This position is one of six new faculty job openings across the
    disciplines of the College, which seeks to expand upon the
    strategies and perspectives available in the ArtCenter classroom,
    foster institutional expertise in the intersections between art and
    design practices and legacies of racism and colonialism, and advance
    more just and equitable futures both within and beyond the ArtCenter
    community. Preference will be given to candidates whose work engages
    global, anti-racist, and decolonizing frameworks in relation to the
    fields of art, design, and/or media.

    The graduate programs at ArtCenter College of Design invite
    applications from practitioners/scholars from Science and Technology
    Studies, Media/Software Studies, Anthropology, and related fields.
    We are offering a full-time position to enrich and expand the
    research, theory, and creative practices of graduate-level artists,
    filmmakers, and designers through graduate studies courses across
    all degrees.


    We are looking for a scholar engaged with theories and research
    approaches that consider the ethics, politics, and worldviews of
    data, media, and technology development, use, and practices. Our
    students require exposure to research ethics and methodologies
    (inclusive, participatory, etc.) that address racism, sexism,
    ableism, and other inequities and biases across media and
    technology, enacted in actual project-based work (from designed
    systems and services to artistic works).


    With a home base in our Humanities & Sciences department, the
    position will teach across multiple graduate programs that currently
    include: Art, Film, Graphic Design, Industrial Design, Media Design
    Practices, and Transportation Systems and Design. Scholars will work
    with graduate students in both seminars and project-based work,
    helping to develop our students’ critical understanding of the
    theories, contexts, and methodologies of advanced art, design, and
    filmmaking practices.


    The position will include teaching graduate-level seminar/s on
    multi-perspectival research methodologies in your domain for
    advanced creative practitioners (pursuing MFAs and MScs); overseeing
    thesis research and writing workshops and/or courses; advising
    graduate students on thesis writing and project work; thesis
    reviews; and service on the College’s Institutional Review Board for
    human subjects research. Candidates are also expected to maintain
    and develop scholarly research and practice. We are particularly
    interested in scholars who want to do practice-based research in
    collaboration with ArtCenter faculty and/or graduate students on
    both exploratory and funded research.


    This position requires full-time teaching responsibilities,
    administrative service, and instructional duties, which may be
    outside of the Humanities & Sciences department and which may
    include occasional substitute teaching, service on collegewide
    committees such as Faculty Council, faculty and student mentoring
    and advising, core curricular planning, scholarship and portfolio
    student reviews, physical gallery and program website curation,
    outcome assessments with corresponding data collection, and
    attending departmental and College all-hands meetings. Full-time
    faculty are also responsible to help create visibility and
    recognition for the program and to maintain external relationships
    with designers and leaders experienced with issues of diversity,
    inclusion, and equity.



    *Core Duties and Responsibilities*

      * Teaching in multiple graduate programs: Art, Film, Graphic
        Design, Industrial Design, Media Design Practices, and
        Transportation Systems and Design Programs at ArtCenter College
        of Design
      * Provide classroom instruction, maintain and report student
        attendance, preparation of instructional material including
        class syllabi, grading students’ assignments and exams, posting
        students’ grades, consulting with students, replying to
        students’ inquiries, and facilitating course evaluations
      * Mentor and guide students beyond the classroom


    *Other Responsibilities and service opportunities*

      * Assist in cultivating guest lectures, visiting designers,
        publications and student competitions
      * Cross-disciplinary course content
      * Assist with student gallery, grad show and web content
      * Assist in creating visibility and recognition for the program
        among prospective students, the design community, creative
        industries, and potential donors and sponsors
      * Maintain external relationships with designers and leaders
        experienced with issues of diversity, inclusion, and equity


    *Qualifications*

      * Master’s degree from an accredited college or university or
        equivalent professional experience or advanced research
        experience (scholarly, independent, applied, community-based,
        artistic in Art, Film, Graphic Design, Industrial Design, Media
        Design Practices or Transportation Systems and Design Programs
      * College level teaching experience
      * Demonstrated ability to work in cross-disciplinary programming
        and initiatives
      * Proven record of advisement and mentoring research in creative
        fields
      * Ability to handle confidential information with tact and
        discretion and recognize the confidential nature of ArtCenter
        business, as well as requirements under the Family Educational
        Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)
      * Must be able to work with and understand our culturally diverse
        student and faculty body with their needs and goals
      * Demonstrated experience in and commitment to diversity, and the
        ability to establish and maintain effective working
        relationships within Art Center’s diverse communities



    *Preferred Qualifications*

      * Familiarity with creative practice education, theory, practices,
        and culture
      * Experience with online and/or hybrid mode teaching
