[Commlist] Call for Contributions: 21st Century Animation

Wed Jan 19 14:45:35 GMT 2022

Call for Contributions

As part of the CILECT 21C Books Project, the Executive Council is seeking contributions to the volume: 21st Century Animation: Innovation, Aesthetics, Approaches.

In a world of unprecedented digital literacy, in which Animation increasingly finds expression through multifarious and hybridised forms, and across various sectors including entertainment, education, science, health, politics, etc, it is timely to examine the techniques, aesthetics, narratives and approaches of its contemporary practice. A medium that encompasses the eccentricities of the auteur alongside the broad appeal of the mainstream industry, Animation lends itself to critical analyses of its meanings, contexts and modes.

Contributions are sought by way of traditional articles, interviews and case studies, according to, but limited by, the following broad considerations; various critical lens might be brought to bear on any of these topics, while innovation and diversity is key throughout:

• Going beyond the auteur: approaches to analysis
• Adaptation in animation
• Animation and aesthetics: form, sound, visual, hybridity
• Animation and innovation: use cases, production and distribution
• Global practitioner perspectives: interviews with innovative animators from around the world, with a focus on underrepresented countries.

Please, send a 250-word abstract (excluding bibliography) with a title, a 100- word bio, and a short CV and contact info (for each author/co-author) to (cilectanimationbook /at/ gmail.com)

Abstracts will be accepted in English, French, and Spanish, but the final texts should be submitted in English. If you need support in this regard, please do not hesitate to contact us or mention it when sending your abstract.

Please let us know if you would like to include illustrations. Photographs, graphics and illustrations will be included in the book. Video materials will be included through printed QR-codes.

Final contributions should not exceed 8.000 words (minimum 2.000). The book is going to be peer-reviewed.

Timeline:
  • Deadline for abstracts: February 15th, 2022
  • Decision made and communicated: April 15th, 2022
  • Submission deadline: August 30th, 2022
The volume will be published under the general auspices of the CILECT Executive Council and the CILECT Executive Director, and with the generously contributed volunteered efforts of the editors:
