The Department of Media and Performance at the University of
Huddersfield is seeking a Research Fellow as part of our Yorkshire Film
and Television School Innovation Lab (YFTS iLab). This ambitious
research project aims to address systemic inequalities in the film and
television industries. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to
an interdisciplinary project that aims to develop new methodologies for
addressing the systemic inequalities in the UK’s screen industries.
The post-holder will contribute to the YFTS iLab through:
• reviewing existing academic literature related to equality, diversity
and inclusion (EDI) in the film and television industries and analysing
relevant industry and media policy documents related to EDI;
• mapping the UK-based advocacy organisations in this sector;
• designing, conducting and analysing interviews with UK-based advocacy
organisations in this sector;
• contributing to the design of a series of lab events that explore new,
horizontal methods for artistic, academic, and professional knowledge
exchange related to EDI;
• disseminating the findings, including in co-authored academic articles
and conference papers. The Research Fellow will also be expected to
undertake up to 6 hours of teaching per week.
The successful applicant will have substantial experience in undertaking
research into race/ethnicity and/or disability and of utilising media
industry research methods. You will have a deep grounding in academic
theories and industry/policy debates relating to EDI in the media
industries. An understanding of the UK film and TV industries is
desirable. The post-holder must be comfortable working in an
interdisciplinary and experimental context. The post-holder will have a
clear commitment to EDI in research and impact work.

The Department of Media and Performance spans across subject areas in
media, film, journalism and drama and is home to the Centre for
Participatory Culture Research and leads the Yorkshire Film and
Television School. The post is for two years full-time, although part
time applicants will be considered.
