Job description
The Department of Culture, Media & Creative Industries (CMCI) seeks to
hire a Lecturer in Culture, Media & Creative Industries Education
focusing on Cultural Entrepreneurship. This Academic Education Pathway
(AEP) post will contribute to teaching, engagement, and pastoral support
across our BA Culture, Media & Creative Industries and three
postgraduate programmes: Arts & Cultural Management MA; Cultural &
Creative Industries MA and Global Media Industries MA.
We seek applicants who can contribute to our goals of delivering
innovative, inclusive, and socially-engaged education, and the ongoing
diversification of our curriculum. In particular, we are looking for
candidates who can demonstrate both practitioner experience and academic
teaching, scholarship and enquiry, enabling students to bridge theory
and practice. The successful post-holder will play a central role in
supporting students’ knowledge, understanding, and applied skills
development relating to entrepreneurial management (e.g. innovative
marketing, budgeting, planning, strategy etc.). They will also champion
critical approaches to arts, culture and entrepreneurship, building on
existing research, including from within CMCI.
The post-holder will work closely with colleagues, complementing
existing strengths in the Department and Faculty. They will lead on the
development of new links with a range of internal and external
stakeholders, facilitating educational innovation and providing a new
hub for cultural entrepreneurship.
Indicatively, the successful post-holder will lead on developing the new
Level 6 module Social and Cultural Entrepreneurship, and convene the
Level 7 Cultural Management: The Experience. They will also contribute
to team-taught modules, such as Cultural Production in a Changing World
(Level 4); Creative Living and Learning (Level 5); Events and Festivals,
Managing Arts & Culture (Level 6); and The Entrepreneurial Opportunity
(Level 7).
The successful candidate will either hold a PhD in Culture, Media &
Creative Industries or a closely related discipline (or be very near to
completion i.e. submitted but awaiting viva/defence), or they will have
equivalent experience in a relevant professional or industry context. In
either case, they will be able to demonstrate an excellent knowledge and
understanding of a field of expertise relating to cultural
entrepreneurship. This post does not require independent research and
the delivery of research outputs. However, the Department will support
scholarship fitting to the Academic Education Pathway role which
prioritises research on pedagogic areas.
The post-holder will be a highly effective educator, with experience of
teaching and assessment in Higher Education (preferably in the UK), a
commitment to student learning and welfare, and an aptitude for working
within an interdisciplinary framework. We encourage applications from
members of groups with protected characteristics that have been
marginalised on any grounds enumerated under the Equality Act. We
particularly welcome applications from Black and minority ethnic
candidates, as they are under-represented at this level.
In applying for this role please include a covering letter clearly
indicating how you meet the essential and desirable criteria below, and
an up-to-date CV. Applicants are asked to include, as part of their
covering letter, a separate statement describing past experience of,
and/or future plans for, promoting diversity and inclusion.
This post will be offered on a full-time, indefinite contract. Due to
commence in July 2022.
