AHRC Midlands4Cities PhD funding for UK/International applicants*****

Media & Culture Research Centre

The AHRC-fundedMidlands4Cities Doctoral Training Partnership <https://www.midlands4cities.ac.uk/> (M4C) brings together eight leading universities across the Midlands to support the professional and personal development of the next generation of arts and humanities doctoral researchers. M4C is a collaboration between De Montfort University, the University of Leicester, the University of Birmingham, Birmingham City University, University of Warwick, Coventry University, University of Nottingham and Nottingham Trent University.

M4C is awarding up to 93 doctoral studentships for UK and international applicants for 2022 entry and 16 Collaborative Doctoral Awards.

De Montfort University invites applications for a 3-year fully funded PhD scholarship with the *Media & C**ulture**Research Centre*, De Montfort University, Leicester (https://www.dmu.ac.uk/research/centres-institutes/mcrc/ <https://www.dmu.ac.uk/research/centres-institutes/mcrc/>).

The MCRC is an interdisciplinary research Centre whose main areas of specialization are:

 1. Representation
 2. Media technical change & culture
 3. Cultural citizenship
 4. Cultural & Media policy
 5. Cultural Value
 6. Games & Media Industries

We would welcome research proposals that relate to these areas. Some examples of the work of MCRC members in these areas are:

_Representation_

Migrant communities, Race, youth engagement, media representation of women, national and cultural belonging, pop culture, subcultures, gender identities & intersectionality, black masculinity

_Media technical change & culture _

Disinformation, Big Data, social disadvantage through human centred design, database culture, TV Studies and streaming cultures

_Cultural citizenship _

Multiculturalism and decolonization, online, women in academia, mental health, sports rights and the media, Festival studies

_Cultural & Media policy_

Institutional analysis,  sport & the media, journalism and political actors in India,

_Cultural Value_

Online communication and persuasion, intersections between the aesthetics of media forms and ideology.

_Games & Media Industries_

Agency and interactivity; Video game aesthetics; Media industry and production studies; Media paratexts; Transmedia and media convergence.

The MCRC undertakes this research utilizing a wide range of methods including textual analysis, semiotic analysis, statistical analysis, industry/policy analysis, ethnography, games based modelling as well as theory led approaches.
