*Description*

Founded in 1982, Peter Lang Publishing Inc. is the North American division of the Peter Lang Group. The company, headquartered in Switzerland, specializes in the publication of academic monographs and Readers in the humanities and social sciences in both print and electronic formats. All books published are marketed to libraries worldwide through online catalogues, newsletters and publicity fliers, conference displays, social media, book reviews, and other digital marketing.

Peter Lang is seeking a motivated acquisitions editor to grow and manage our award-winning Media & Communication list based out of our US office. The ideal candidate should have a background either in academia or in academic publishing, with experience in the development and acquisitions of Media and Communication titles. The Media and Communication Editor will report directly to the Global Publishing Director and will be responsible for acquiring and publishing a program of research monographs, Handbooks, Major Reference Works, and upper-level textbooks for the scholarly market.

*Requirements*

• Active list development by seeking out new authors and actively researching contemporary ideas and topics of note within the field • Solicit new project proposals and manuscripts, evaluating them for scholarly merit and commercial viability, offering editorial feedback to potential authors • Pitch potential projects to the editorial board, considering market, audience, and sales
• Negotiate contracts with authors of accepted project proposals
• Manage process of all projects on the list, including coordinating manuscript delivery, formatting, and production, communicating with authors and series editors, and liaising between internal publishing departments • Attend academic conferences to commission new projects and promote the Peter Lang bran_d_
• Other duties, as necessary
• Bachelor’s degree
• 5+ years publishing or equivalent experience, preferably in an acquisitions capacity
• Experience in academia or in an academic publishing environment
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications; strong computer skills and software capabilities a plus
• Exceptional communication skills
• Outstanding organizational and interpersonal skills
• Ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, and work both independently and in a small team environment
• Keen attention to detail, including proofreading skills
