This is a quick email to let you know that the deadline for abstracts for BEYOND 2021’s Poster Exhibitionhas been extended to Monday23 August 2021. Early career researchers and doctoral students from the UK and the Republic of Ireland are invited to submit abstracts for the Poster Exhibition at BEYOND 2021, the annual R&D conference for the creative industries. Held on 20-21 October, BEYOND 2021comes from Belfast, Northern Ireland, a region that knows just how intricate the ties between place, identity and power can be. The conference will take place as a hybrid event, combining live and catch-up sessions, online and in person.

Abstracts of no more than 300 words and bionotes of 150 words should be submitted via theapplication form <https://airtable.com/shrLvZnCdWeJIok2o>byMonday August 23rd 2021. Applicants are welcome to also submit supporting materials where such are relevant to their proposals, such as for example, links to project websites, images, videos, and other media assets. These can be submitted via the application form alongside the abstract and bionote.

Topics of research and discussion might include (but are not limited to):

  *
    The influence of the Creative Industries over the formation of
    creative and cultural economies in places of local, national and
    global identity; private and public place; place of learning and
    pedagogical strategy; places of creativity and innovation; artistic
    places; places of power (cultural, political, economic);
  *
    The Creative Industries’ connection to the evolving relationship
    between place and identity;
  *
    Augmented places (real and virtual) and what they can reveal (new
    concepts, histories, characters, narratives);
  *
    Places, communities and identities that have been forgotten, the
    processes of de-repressing the past in such places;
  *
    The significance of the Creative Industries for the UK’s changing
    position in the world;
  *
    Places of craftsmanship and manufacturing, and these places’ role in
    determining the conditions and frameworks of such processes of
    production;
  *
    Ways in which funding and pedagogical strategies can be employed to
    ensure the longevity of UK’s creative talent;
  *
    How can places of creativity foster and nurture diversity in the
    Creative Industries;
  *
    The preservation of local identity and community;
  *
    The significance of racial identity and gender diversity in places
    of creativity;
  *
    The role of neurodiversity in places of creativity;
  *
    Establishing connections between places of creativity and local
    talent, reflecting their individual strengths;
  *
    Building networks that respect and acknowledge cultural heritage and
    project it on a national and global stage.


We welcome candidates from a broad range of disciplinary and interdisciplinary backgrounds including (but not limited to):

  *
    The creative arts (fine art, film and media / moving image);
  *
    Performing arts (theatre and drama, music, opera);
  *
    Digital arts and technologies (games design / multiplayer games /
    mobile gaming / educational gaming, AR/VR/XR);
  *
    Fashion design;
  *
    Heritage and museum studies, focusing on historical places and
    narratives;
  *
    Creative economies and policies;
  *
    Anthropological studies;
  *
    Pedagogical studies for the creative arts that implement digital
    creativity.
