*Call for Contributions. CMNH Symposium: ‘Anti-Racist Research in the Age of Black Lives Matter’.*

Tuesday 22 June 2021.

*Centre for Memory, Narrative and Histories, University of Brighton, East Sussex, UK.*

We are pleased to announce the call for papers for the forthcoming online symposium entitled ‘Anti-Racist Research in the Age of Black Lives Matter’, to be held on Windrush Day 2021.

This online symposium is organized by the Centre for Memory, Narrative and Histories the University of Brighton, UK and aims to hold a conversation about 'doing anti-racist research' in the context of Black Lives Matter, Rhodes Must Fall, decolonising the curriculum and other initiatives in HE and anti-racist activism. With this in mind invite proposals that explore, but are not restricted to, the following:

  * Researching, Writing and Commemorating Windrush
  * The Politics and Practice of Black British History
  * Histories of Anti-Racism in Britain and territories of the former
    British Empire
* Histories of Anti-colonial Resistance (especially in the British Empire)
  * What does it mean to do anti-racist research (in the humanities and
    social sciences?) in the current conjuncture?
  * How are research agendas being transformed, or should be
    transformed/developed in this context?
  * How do we build on existing intellectual and activist work to create
    anti-racist research cultures?

Presenters are in particular encouraged to articulate their proposal around the methodological aspects of their research, which may also include epistemological debates, innovative research methods, etc.

We call for potential speakers to submit a short proposal in English for a paper of 20 minutes length.

Abstracts should not exceed 300 words.

Please also include a short biographical note (150 words max).

We particularly encourage submissions from doctoral students and early career researchers, but we are open to contributions from all researchers.
