Call for Applications: Postdoctoral Fellowship 


Political Communication Research Group

Groupe de recherche en communication politique (GRCP) Laval University, Quebec City, Canada

Duration: 12 months 

Remuneration: $35,000 


The Political Communication Research Group (GRCP) invites applications for a postdoctoral fellowship. The GRCP is an interdisciplinary and inter-university team composed of 13 researchers from Université Laval, Université de Montréal, Université du Québec à Montréal, Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières, Université de Sherbrooke and Téluq, whose work focuses on the examination of phenomena related to the mediatization of politics. 


The GRCP encourages research projects that fall under its three main research axes: the practices of the mediatization of politics, the political discourses resulting from mediatization and the audience who partake in them. More specifically, for the year 2021-2022, preference will be given to projects dealing with one of the following themes: * Women's leadership and political communication (socio-digital communication, cyber- harassment, media image). Professor in charge: Mireille Lalancette, Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières ((mireille.lalancette /at/ uqtr.ca)). * Digital disinformation, artificial intelligence, digital media ecosystems.Professor in charge: Colette Brin, Université Laval ((colette.brin /at/ com.ulaval.ca)). * Mediatization of public opinion. Professor in charge: Frédérick Bastien, Université de Montréal 
((f.bastien /at/ umontreal.ca)). Prior to submitting an application, candidates must make arrangements with a GRCP professor/researcher who will act as the postdoctoral fellowship’ supervisor.

The GRCP offers: * A 35 000$ salary for 12 months. * An annual scholarship of $800 for knowledge dissemination or methodological training activities. * Access to a workstation in one of the GRCP laboratories. * Access to the libraries of all partner universities. * Access to the GRCP's research seminars and International Workshop, as well as to all other activities organized by the research group.
Eligibility: 

* PhD in communications, political science or a related discipline. * Have an in-depth knowledge of the central theories and concepts of political communication research, and more specifically of issues related to the mediatization of politics, supported by scientific publications in the field. * Present a research project that is in line with this perspective. * Devote full time to the postdoctoral fellowship (do not plan to hold another job during the year of the postdoctoral fellowship and plan to spend the majority of your time on one of the university campuses associated with the GRCP. This last condition will be reassessed in the summer of 2021 based on the evolution of the current health care environment - Covid 19). * Be willing to present his/her research as part of GRCP's activities. * Capacity to work in French. * Preference will be given to candidates who are Canadian citizens or permanent residents.

The application package must include the following elements: 

* Detailed Curriculum Vitae. * Cover letter. * Presentation of the research project (5 pages). * Proof that the thesis has been defended or is about to be defended. * Letter of support from the professor/internship supervisor. 


Evaluation criteria: 

* Relevance of the proposed research project to the themes addressed by the GRCP. * Originality and contribution to the advancement of knowledge. * Feasibility of the project in 12 months. * Relevance of the GRCP as a host site. * Concordance between the research project and the expertise of the GRCP professor-researchers.
