The Department of Humanities at Michigan Technological University invites applications for an Open Rank Professor of Communication to begin August 2022. Candidates should have a record of excellent teaching and scholarly work in Communication particularly linked to technology and communication in the public interest, with specialization in the fields of Human-Machine Communication (HMC) or Computer-Mediated Communication. Areas of research may include but are not limited to the intersection of human-machine communication and the following: AI, linguistics, interpersonal/group communication, organizational communication, disability studies, media and representation, culture and everyday life. We seek candidates leading empirical studies (qualitative, quantitative, interpretive, or mixed-methods) favoring a critical approach, who desire to be involved in interdisciplinary research, and who are committed to the principles of equity, diversity and inclusion within research and teaching. A demonstrated ability to secure grant funding would also be highly desirable. Ability to teach courses at the undergraduate level in linguistics, interpersonal, group, and/or organizational communication is also desirable.

The Department of Humanities at Michigan Technological University invitesapplications for atenure track Assistant Professor in the field of Media and Communication Studies, or a closelyrelatedfield,with specialization indigital media and/or data journalism.We seek candidates focused on social media issues involving such topics as algorithmicdiscrimination and data justice, platform economies, governance/regulatory frameworks,infrastructures (technical and/or material), surveillance, media industries, and/or publics (e.g.,studiesofmisinformation/disinformation,civicengagement,platformizednewsandjournalism).Candidates may have experience/interest in methodological approaches including qualitative,quantitative, critical, interpretive, or mixed-methods. Ability to teach methods and tools for datacollection and analysis is highly desirable, as well as a demonstrated commitment to diversity,equity,justice, and human flourishingthat are the hallmarksof the Humanities.

The department's faculty teach and engage in research that both shapes and benefits from arich multi-disciplinary environment. The usual teaching load is 2 courses (6 hrs.) per semester pre-tenure with competitive salaryand benefits.
