The College of Media & Communication at Texas Tech University invites 
applications for a tenured Associate or Full Professor of journalism 
supported by the Morris Endowment, which funds excellence in journalism 
education. This is a nine-month, full-time position. The successful 
candidate will be a nationally or internationally recognized scholar of 
journalism whose active research record and professional experience has 
explicitly foregrounded one of the following areas: 1. diversity, 
equity, and inclusion issues—including but not limited to Black or 
Hispanic journalism history; perspectives on diversity in the news 
industry; media representations of minoritized groups, the working 
class, or LGBTQ issues; or feminist media studies; 2) journalism and 
artificial intelligence, virtual reality, and the investigation of big 
data sets; 3) international or comparative journalism history, practice, 
or systems; or 4) journalism and health, science, or environmental 
communication. The selected candidate will be reviewed for tenure and 
for the rank of Associate or Full Professor at Texas Tech, a Carnegie 
Tier 1 Research University.

The Morris Professor will join the Department of Journalism & Creative 
Media Industries (JCMI) in the fall of 2022 and will be expected to work 
on Texas Tech's Lubbock campus. The successful candidate will be 
responsible for teaching a standard load of four face-to-face, online, 
and/or hybrid courses per academic year as assigned by the department 
chair, advising MA and Ph.D. students, and engaging in research, 
service, and outreach activities that benefit the department, college, 
and/or university.

      Required Qualifications

Candidates should have a completed Ph.D. and an active record of 
internationally recognized scholarship befitting a tenured faculty 
member at an R1 university. A strong record of teaching in journalism 
theory and practice is required, as is demonstrated experience in 
seeking substantial external support for research, teaching, and/or 
outreach activities. Applicants should have ample experience working 
with, covering, researching, and/or serving diverse communities and/or 
first-generation students, a desire to actively mentor students at Texas 
Tech, and the capacity to lead our department's efforts to better serve 
an increasingly diverse student body.


      Preferred Qualifications

We seek a dynamic and knowledgeable integrated scholar who will leverage 
relationships with the TTU Black Cultural Center, the Thomas Jay Harris 
Institute for Hispanic & International Communication, the Women's and 
Gender Studies program, or other relevant institutional partners to 
pursue transformative publication, grant seeking, service, outreach, and 
engagement outcomes. Candidates who can demonstrate previous success in 
obtaining external support for research are particularly desirable. 
 Applicants with experience in data journalism, investigative 
reporting, and/or independent/bilingual news production are especially 
encouraged to apply.


      Salary and Endowment Details

Base salary will be commensurate with rank, experience, and scholarly 
profile.

In addition, the successful candidate will oversee an annual Morris 
Endowment budget of about $25,000. The endowment funds travel, 
programming, and other expenditures related to the professorship's 
mission of creating excellence in undergraduate journalism training and 
pedagogy.

Summer teaching, if requested and available, would warrant an additional 
$5,000 per course, pending budget availability.

communication as well as social scientific research methods. The
