[Commlist] Postdoctoral position on ‘Patterns in Practice: cultures of data mining in science, education and the arts’ @ University of Sheffield

We have an exciting opportunity for an excellent Postdoctoral Researcher 
to work on the AHRC-funded project ‘Patterns in Practice: cultures of 
data mining in science, education and the arts’.‘Patterns in Practice’ 
is researching how practitioners’ beliefs, values and feelings interact 
to shape their engagement with data mining and machine learning in three 
specific contexts: pharmaceutical drug discovery, higher education 
learning analytics, and arts practice.

This is an opportunity to join an innovative team of researchers and 
carry out research under the direction of the project’s Principal 
Investigator, Dr Jo Bates, and with Co-Investigators Professor Helen 
Kennedy (Sheffield) and Dr Erinma Ochu (Manchester Met). The role will 
involve using qualitative research approaches. As one of two 
Postdoctoral Researchers on the project your primary responsibilities 
will be on the ‘science’ and ‘education’ cases, whilst playing an 
important supporting role in the ‘arts’ case. You will also contribute 
to reviewing the literature, cross-case analysis and theorization and 
dissemination of research through academic publication and impact 
activities. The project also has three partner organisations that you 
will work with closely.

The position is in the Information School, ranked first in the World for 
Library and Information Management through the QS World Rankings and 
recognised for its world-class research, excellence in teaching, and the 
achievements of its graduates.
