What we are looking for
- A research professor with a PhD and a consolidated research track
record in Journalism.
- The candidate will join a research team focused on the intersection of
media production, media consumption, political communication, and public
opinion.
- The candidate will also teach certain modules in the field of Journalism.
We offer
- A full-time contract in an emerging, proactive, and international
scientific environment in the field of Journalism.
- A tenure track position of 4 years, with a mid-term evaluation
(depending on the applicant’s profile, the position may automatically
become permanent).
- A competitive salary based on the qualifications and experience of the
candidate.
- Start date: to be negotiated with the candidate. The desired start
date would be as close as possible to 01 September 2020.
Selection process
In May 2018, the Universitat Internacional de Catalunya received
recognition from EURAXESS via an HR Excellence in Research Award that
ensures that the selection of candidates is carried out only based on
criteria for excellence. The UIC Barcelona selection process includes:
An independent committee of experts who evaluate applications and decide
who will move on to the next stage. All the committee members are from
outside UIC-Barcelona.
A public oral defence by finalists: presentation of their trajectory
(both academic and teaching) and their research project/s. Following
this presentation, the examining panel will ask a number of questions to
conclude the defence. The defence will take 60 minutes in total.
Application deadline
The deadline for applications is 30 April 2020.
Requirements
The candidate must have:
* A PhD in Journalism.
* A minimum of 3 years postdoctoral experience.
Assessment criteria
- The candidate should demonstrate an independent research track.
Particular consideration will be given to candidates who have obtained
their own funding as a principal investigator and/or who have signed
papers as senior authors in high-ranking JCR journals, as well as those
who have made valuable contributions in terms of scientific productivity
within a research group led by another researcher.
- The following aspects of the applicant’s CV will also be taken into
consideration:
* Consolidated experience in the use of quantitative methodologies.
* Lead their own projects in research with competitive funding.
* Proven research experience (such as publications and projects) that
could help the department’s research, currently focused on the
intersection of media production, media consumption, political
communication, and public opinion.
* Oral and written proficiency in English.
* Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
* At least one postdoctoral research stay in an international centre.
