[Commlist] Cancellation: Loughborough (UK) transitional justice conference (8-9 July) and pre-conference (7-8 July)
Wed Apr 08 20:12:39 GMT 2020
After serious deliberation, and consultation with Loughborough
University, we decided today to cancel our upcoming transitional justice
conference in Loughborough, scheduled for July 8-9. That includes the
PGR pre-conference workshops on 7-8 July. We have made this difficult
decision as a result of monitoring the ongoing COVID-19 situation in
Europe and around the world. We are aware of the numerous travel
restrictions in place and national lockdowns currently in effect.
We have considered whether to move the event online. Unfortunately, the
logistics of organising an online event are currently beyond our
capabilities. We are an emergent network with limited funding. We are
hoping to be able to move the conference and pre-conference workshops to
November 2020 or early 2021 next year before the grant end date of Feb
2021 (provided of course we are back to ‘normal’ by then).
*Keep abstracts for the main conference and registrations for
pre-conference workshops coming in so we can get a sense of future
numbers.*We are hoping to run the conference and pre-conference
workshops in the same format although we realise that due to the
unpredictability of the situation some things may have to change at
short notice. Once we get a better sense of future planning in
consultation with Loughborough University, we will send early
notifications of a new timeline by email, Twitter and network website
(http://ahrc-transitionaljustice.org.uk).
These are unprecedented and worrying times. Our first priority is the
health and safety of our network members and their families, as well as
all those whose work is vital for us in our universities and other
places of work.
All the very best from the conference chairs (Cristian Tileagă & Lavinia
Stan) and AHRC Network Manager (Rachel Armitage)
