Call for full chapters. The Politics of Technology in Latin America Vol. 
1 and Vol. 2/. /Routledge.

David Ramírez Plascencia (University of Guadalajara) and Barbara 
Carvalho Gurgel(UMass Dartmouth) invite you to send full chapters for 
the edited collections /The Politics of //Technology in Latin America 
Vol. 1 and Vol. 2./, which will be submitted to Routledge’s Series, 
/Emerging Technologies, Ethics and International Affairs/. The editorial 
has already accepted the project and it is under contract, we are 
looking for additional works to complete both volumes. Chapters related 
with the following topics are particularly welcome:

1) Deep Web.
2) Cyberterrorism.
3) Data privacy in the workplace.
4) Labor market, robots and artificial intelligence.
5) Human trafficking and digital media.
6) Covid-19 pandemic and the use of Information technology in health, 
domestic and education issues.
7) Women and digital activism.
8) Robots, artificial intelligence and healthcare.

*Rationale*

The purpose of these edited books is to examine the technological and 
ethical trends and prospective challenges that will reshape the social 
use of digital technologies in Latin America. How will ethical and legal 
frameworks have to evolve to respond to novel issues and critical 
challenges in the region, ranging from virtual harassment, bullying and 
sexting incidents posted on YouTube, dating app user privacy, 
information on members of criminal organizations disseminated on social 
media, political activism and governmental censorship, in addition to 
the introduction of robotics and AI, cyberwar, the rise of fake news and 
alternative facts, the digital economy, cryptocurrencies and other key 
topics. The two volumes are complementary, since they embrace two 
distinct aspects of the common process of the rise and spread of digital 
technologies in Latin America. The first volume, *Data **Protection, 
Homeland Security and Labor Market in the XXI century,* focuses on 
governmental, economic and security issues. The object is to cover two 
main issues: (a) how public institutions and corporations face ethical 
and legal critical complexities related with data protection, privacy, 
the irruption artificial intelligence (AI) and robots into the labor 
market; and (b) to find a proper balance in between security and human 
rights, and in particular the way in which public institutions should 
incorporate technologies like drones and autonomous weapons systems to 
combat criminality while respecting constitutional civil rights. The 
second volume, *The **Politics of Technology in Latin America /Vol 2. 
/Digital Media, Daily Life and Public Engagement *focuses on the 
hyper-medialization of the region from the citizen perspective. It 
focuses on critical topics related to the use of digital media in the 
private sphere: (a) human relations, social media and students, 
migration, the use of domestic drones, and (b) digital media and its 
impact on news production, including critical issues like the corporate 
integrity of major media players and the production of fake news, and 
how digital technologies serve as spaces for political and civil engagement.

*General Guidelines*

1.Please ask the editors for the final version of the editorial project. 
Introduction, author bios, and chapter summary, so you can have an 
overall idea about the two books in the project.

2.Chapters (inclusive of all citations/references/notes) must now be 
between 6,000 and 6,500 words. Any papers over the upper limit will be 
considered for removal from the volume in the event we overshoot our 
word limit.

3. Please use APA citation format. If you use any kind of referencing 
system, please ensure the file supplied is in plain text and does not 
involve any kind of special embedded formatting as per Endnote or Zotero.

4. Please use Times New Roman Font, Size 12, and singled-spaced.

5. Please write your chapter in the US English style.

6. For additional information about copyright issues, formatting for 
tables and figures, etc. Please give a careful read to all documentation 
provided by the editorial, particularly to the document “Full Author 
Guidelines.”
