Call for Papers: International Symposium on *Documentary Film Mutations*

Documentary Film Mutations: International Symposium at the School of Fine Arts (Polytechnic University of Valencia, Spain) on *4-5 July* 2019.

Deadline for Submission of Abstracts: *6th May* 2019.

Throughout the first two decades of this century, and thanks to the potentialities of emerging digital technologies, the documentary film genre has experimented relevant changes in its aim of filming the reality and its communication to the society. New forms of representation, strategies of communication, participation, mobilization, and methodologies for the evaluation of its social impact have emerged over this period. Therefore, nowadays it seems necessary to read the documentary film in relation with its synergies with (i) emerging fields related to digital media, such as social media and big data; and (ii) complementary forms of representation like animation, immersive experiences or interactive platforms. In this vein, this symposium invites contributions that examine the interaction between documentary films and digital media focusing on those cases in which the documentary process seeks to report human rights violations and social injustices. Topics of interest include (but are not limited to) how the documentary film is currently taking vantages of digital media opportunities for this purpose:

- Animated documentary: the representation of the real through the animation.

- Web-documentary (interactive documentary)

- Transmedia practices (documentary production coordinate with social media campaigns)

- Methodologies of evaluation of the social impact of documentary films through social media analytics (quantitative and qualitative methodologies).

- Strategies of data visualization, interactive platforms and documentary films

- Immersive documentaries and VR film-making: the reconstruction of the reality through virtual 3D environments.

Please send your abstract (500 words), title and selected bibliography along with 150-300 words author short bio (including your affiliation and contact information) to Fernando Canet ((fercacen /at/ upv.es)) by 6 May 2019, at the latest.
