McGill University seeks applications to the *Beaverbrook Chair in Media, 
Ethics, and Communications*, to be based in the Max Bell School of 
Public Policy within the Faculty of Arts. The successful candidate will 
have the academic credentials required for a tenured appointment at the 
rank of Associate Professor. Salary will be negotiable, according to 
qualifications and experience.

The ideal candidate will be a recognized expert in the relationship 
between media, technology, and democracy. In particular, the candidate 
will have a deep understanding of how our evolving technological 
infrastructure -- including digital platforms, advertising technologies, 
and artificial intelligence -- are driving changes in both the 
journalism and the broader media ecosystem.

The holder of the Chair will also be actively engaged in the policy 
process, with an appreciation for how the relevant policies are 
developed, promoted, and implemented. The candidate will have an 
appreciation for the value of public scholarship in this area, and how 
it can both supplement peer-reviewed work and enhance the realm of 
policy making. Capacity to communicate in French is considered a 
definite asset.

The successful candidate will report to the Director of the Max Bell 
School of Public Policy and will contribute to the academic activities 
of the School, especially the Master of Public Policy (MPP) program. The 
successful candidate will teach, mentor students, develop and promote 
research, and promote a shared vision that will engage and motivate 
collaborators and stakeholders in support of the School’s programs.

The holder of the Beaverbrook Chair will play a leading role in a major 
new project on media, technology, and democracy currently being built at 
the Max Bell School. As a nexus for ongoing research into the evolving 
interplay between the media, politics and democracy, the project’s 
overarching goal will be to serve as a hub of outreach, debate, applied 
research, and public engagement around evolving media-democracy issues.
