Södertörn University in Stockholm offers

two vacant positions in journalism:


**

*Assistant Professor in journalism *

*with a focus on media technology*


Södertörn University is now seeking an Assistant Professor in journalism with a focus on media technology. The Assistant Professor will actively participate in lecturing, examination and course development in all types of journalism courses, i.e. first-, second- and third-cycle. The Assistant Professor will participate in the development of courses and research with a focus on data journalism and quantitative methods, interaction design or programming of media services. Journalism at Södertörn University is characterized by close integration of practical and theoretical elements, as part of which we work in teaching teams. Research may be a part of the position if external funding is secured. The position also includes administrative responsibilities and collaboration with other areas of the university.


*Qualifications*
Applicants for the position of Assistant Professor shall have demonstrated pedagogical proficiency and taken their PhD or have corresponding scientific competence or other professional proficiency that is of significance given the subject matter and tasks associated with the position. Journalism is interdisciplinary and for this particular position it would be beneficial if the applicant comes from either a technical background or a social sciences or humanities background. The applicant shall be able to teach in either Swedish or English. The completion of a university-level teaching program or corresponding competence is a merit.

*Grounds for assessment*

As grounds for employment as an Assistant Professor, applicants shall display such a degree of such proficiency as required to be qualified for the position. Scientific proficiency is demonstrated through published research. Pedagogical proficiency shall be demonstrated through documented experiences of implementation and development of educational programs and the submission of a written document outlining the applicant’s fundamental approach to pedagogy. The applicant in general shall have the personal qualities required to fulfill the requirements of the position. Scientific and pedagogical proficiency will be weighted equally. A focus in data journalism and quantitative methods, interaction design or programming for media services is a merit.

Södertörn University is now seeking an Assistant Professor with a focus on digital journalism. The Assistant Professor will actively participate in lecturing, examination and course development in all types of journalism courses, i.e. first-, second- and third-cycle. The position specializes in the development of courses and research where journalistic skills are used in new forms of media. Journalistic writing and journalistic narration play central roles within this framework, regardless of whether they occur in text, images, audio or video. It is also important to set the narrations in the context that defines the new media landscape, where the overlapping areas between journalism, policy and residents are constantly changing. Research may be a part of the position if external funding is secured. The position also includes administrative responsibilities and collaboration with other areas of the university.


*Qualifications*
Applicants for the position of Assistant Professor shall have demonstrated pedagogical proficiency and taken their PhD or have corresponding scientific competence or other professional proficiency that is of significance given the subject matter and tasks associated with the position. Journalism is an interdisciplinary subject and applicants may have a background in the humanities and social sciences as well as technology. Applicants shall use Swedish as their working language and have documented experience of teaching in Swedish, Norwegian or Danish. The completion of a university-level teaching program or corresponding competence is a merit.
