School of Journalism and Communication
The School of Journalism and Communication at the University of Oregon

join our thriving advertising and brand development program. The ideal
candidate will have a Ph.D., professional experience in advertising or a
related field, and demonstrated teaching ability at the college level.
She or he will also have expertise in multiple areas listed below,
offering the ability to research, teach, create and lead in innovative
fashion. We want a partner who will help build our program and work
collaboratively with our invested faculty and students.
The ideal candidate will have experience in obtaining grants and
external funding for innovative research that extends the boundaries of
how creative and strategic approaches might be applied to social and
scientific inquiry. We seek that person who will bring a research agenda
that looks beyond traditional advertising themes and finds innovative
approaches to research and creative activity that deserve recognition.
Candidates working in these areas will be given preference:
* data analytics
* sustainability and environmental communication
* strategic planning and management for global advertising though we
are interested in considering a wide range of expertise and
scholarship.
Our preferred candidate will display knowledge of how these issues
inform one another and the larger process of brand communication in the
21st century. Our program thrives in a journalism and communication
school known for strong storytelling and ethical training. We have
developed the Creative Strategist model of advertising education,
wherein everyone is trained to generate ideas and to be think critically
and strategically. We are dedicated to solving problems for people and
brands in a global economy; brand responsibility is an important shared
value of our faculty and students.
The advertising program graduates go on to careers at agencies and
brands in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Portland and Seattle; we
believe faculty mentorship is one reason these successes occur over a
range of expertise. Our 2015 NSAC team won first place in the nation, a
coveted award and validation. Our student advertising agency is an
experiential lab. We take dozens of students to New York each year for
Creative Week. Our students regularly receive MAIP internships via the
AAAA and Most Promising Multicultural Student designation from AAF. Be
they focusing on creative, strategy, management, production, media, or a
hybrid career description; our undergraduate students work to establish
themselves for leadership in their careers.
Therefore, the person we seek must be able to inform and inspire our
students, using knowledge of culture and the industry to do so.
Teaching opportunities are available across the curriculum as well as in
our academic master's and doctoral programs and the strategic
communication professional master's program at our Portland Turnbull Center.
We invite applications from qualified candidates who share our
commitment to a diverse, equitable and inclusive learning and work
environment. Employment begins September 16, 2017. To ensure
consideration, please submit applications by *November 16, 2016*. The
position will remain open until filled. Interested candidates should
