[ecrea] "Figures of Entanglement" Special Issue Now Available Online

Wed Oct 05 09:40:37 GMT 2016

We are pleased to announce that the RoC "Figures of Entanglement" Special Issue has been recently published and is now available online. This special issue aims to contribute to emerging new materialist scholarship in rhetoric and communication studies. Generally distinguished by an understanding of meaning and identity in nonanthropocentric terms through an emphasis on the agency and vitality of matter itself, new materialisms provide a timely opportunity for scholars to revisit longstanding assumptions of human exceptionalism concerning the nature and scope of language, meaning, subjectivity, and how these relate to questions of ontology, ethics, and political intervention. The essays in this volume provide what we believe are pathbreaking explorations of these questions that serve to expand and transform the boundaries of our discipline in novel and more ecologically-attuned directions. Each article does so by illuminating particular ways in which humans and human meaning are always ontologically and dynamically entangled with the more- or other-than-human material world.
