Controlling Data: Somebody think of the children

Edith Cowan University in Perth Western Australia welcomes you to an 
academic discussion about the privacy and security of children’s data. 
The 2016 Controlling Data symposium 
<http://www.ecu.edu.au/conferences/2016/controlling-data-somebody-think-of-the-children/about> 
will address the problematic relationship that users of digital 
technologies have with the information held about their conduct, 
contacts and the contents of what they produce and circulate 
online.Whilst this is a complex issue for adults, an additional level of 
uncertainty is introduced when the users are minors and, especially, 
when they are pre-schoolers. What do we know about who controls the 
information produced by or with children in their digital explorations? 
Are remedies available to address the gaps in transparency and 
accountability and, if so, do they offer a solution? How accessible are 
such strategies for parents, caregivers and young people themselves?

This event is proudly sponsored by the Centre for Research in 
Entertainment, Arts, Technology, Education and Communications (Edith 
Cowan University) and the ARC Centre of Excellence for Creative 
Industries and Innovation. It will be held on the 24^th and 25^th 
October 2016 and the Vines Resort <https://www.vines.com.au/>, Western 
Australia (spring in the Swan Valley).

publication on the topic, please submit a 250 word abstract to
