I draw your attention to the following vacancy (0.6, Senior Lecturer, Grade 8). Further details can be found at: http://www1.lsbu.ac.uk/php5c-cgiwrap/hrweb/index.php/currentvacancies/J00853-1/1160

I can also show interested potential candidates our huge VR demonstration lab, and three other Green Screen studios. LSBU was also recently voted one of the top 20 Higher Education Institutions to work for in the UK and we have a great central London campus, just south of the Tate, the Globe,

We are seeking an experienced industry practitioner or practitioner-academic to run our new Bachelor of Arts Degree in VFX. BA Visual Effects launches in September, 2017 in our new £4 million state of the art Elephant Studios complex, based on campus. The new three-year course received high commendation on its successful validation and we will be seeking accreditation with Creative Skillset once the course has had a successful first year. Overall, the programme of study is 70% practical work and 30% theory. The theory modules are taught with our Special Effects BSc (in the School of Engineering) and Theatre Technology BA, who share an interest in the critical examination of spectacle and illusion found, for example, in the work of George Melies and Karel Zeman. The School of Arts and The Creative Industries is one of the most vibrant in the university and its three Divisions span Creative Technologies, Film and Media, and Arts and Performance. Collaborative working between the Divisions and courses is highly encouraged.

Elephant Studios: A fully equipped film studio, 11 Edit and Grading suites, 2 x Green Screens, a multimedia lab, a 360 Dolby ‘Atmos’ surround sound studio, and two Gaming Design Studios. There are also four further Green Screen studios across the University, a small motion capture studio, and a large VR lab. It is intended that a motion capture lab will be developed for the study of Performance Capture, in 2018. A student ‘base room’ will also be provided for the VFX students with high specification computers. For the capturing of live action students will also have the opportunity to work with performance students in our Edric Theatre and Studio, as well as in the Film Studio.

VFX is a growing area for London South Bank University, we are therefore seeking a strong practitioner or practitioner-academic who enjoys teaching to take the course forward. Experience working in the VFX industry will be essential, and good industry links will be a strong advantage. You are likely to also be interested in technical and aesthetic developments in the VFX and allied fields. We have a thriving research culture and an international creative partnership with Ryerson University in Toronto, Canada. The software taught on the course will reflect the standard VFX cannon therefore current knowledge of common programmes is essential. Experience of directing live action will also be an advantage but not essential. The course will have an allocation of sessional lecturers and the shared use of studio technicians. A competitive salary is on offer, with a discretionary industry supplement for the right candidate.
