News media became the focal area of political conflicts today. This
issue of the Global Media Journal, African Edition welcomes submissions
on the special issue of "media and political conflict" with the aim of
investigating the ways in which news media cover and represent wars and
conflicts.

Media coverage of political conflict can only be understood in context.
However, there are a number of relevant issues that must be considered
in this attempt such as the political context matter in this respect,
such as regime type, international (foreign) or domestic perspectives,
the degree of elite consensus, the degree of policy uncertainty, whether
or not a conflict takes place within an institutionalized setting, and
the stage of democratization.

This crucially media and political volatile setting suggests that media
framing influences political outcomes; including the decisions made by
policy makers, the strategic choices of collective actors and mob
reaction concerning risk and uncertainties.

Much of the available literature discusses the ways in which western
media frame foreign conflicts and domestic election campaigns and policy
debates, while there is considerably insufficient local research
interest and indigenous knowledge in Africa on the media framing of
domestic conflicts in regional and continental contexts, such as those
that arise during and after transitions from non-democratic rule.

The issue is looking for manuscripts that can overcome the current
research gaps in topics such as:

·        More local level empirical data to gather evidence of
how media impacts affected

communities;

·        Larger,      quantitative,   Â
comparativestudies,  mapping change over  longer

periods of time

·        Research     in     new    Â
contexts     andcountries;

·        Greater       examination      Â
of       widercontextual  factors,  and  the Â
interplaybetween different forms of media anddata;Â

·        Evidenceon the role that media andtechnology Â
playin  hybrid  spaces  ofgovernance, where  formal   Â
andinformal governance interact and bothplay key roles;

·        More     engagement     with    Â
existingacademic literature, including literaturefrom the media studies
field around therole     media     plays     in    Â
influencingbehavior,   and   the  Â
well-establishedbody     of     literature    Â
