[ecrea] 4th Edition of the International Workshop of the GRCP

Tue Feb 16 12:52:58 GMT 2016

The Groupe de recherche en communication politique (GRCP) will hold the
fourth edition of its /International Workshop on Political
Communication/ on April 22 and 23, at Université Laval in Quebec City.

The workshop will introduce participants to an overview of innovations
in political communication research. Over two days, five leading
political communication scholars will present current developments in
subfields of the discipline, as well as discuss some of their most
recent work with audience members.

This year’s presentations will focus on digital citizenship in a
comparative perspective, economic and technological transformations of
journalism, predictions of political behavior through analysis of large
scale social media datasets, authenticity in political communication and
racialized media framing of politicians.

Our guest speakers are:

  * Dr. Pablo Barberá (New York University). Dr. Barberá's talk will
discuss the use of large scale social media datasets in citizen
    political communication.
  * Dr. Gunn Enli (University of Oslo). Dr. Enli’s presentation will
focus on how politicians make use of the concept of authenticity in
    their communication strategies.
  * Dr. Erin Tolley (University of Toronto). Dr. Tolley will present her
recent research on racialized media framing of politicians.
  * Dr. Cristian Vaccari (Royal Holloway-University of London). Dr.
Vaccari will discuss the question of political engagement on social
    media.
  * Dr. Nikki Usher (Layser George Washington University). Dr. Usher
will present the state of research on the impact of economic and
technological transformations on the media industry and the
    redefinition of journalism practice.

Attendance to the workshop is free, but as places are limited, those
