    The project „Algorithms and Media Organizations" will study the
    development and implementation of different types of algorithms in
    Swedish media organizations. Algorithms (in this case referring to
    computerized processes of selection, distribution and creation of
    content) are having an increasing impact on news production in terms
    of what types of content is produced, and how this content is
    produced and distributed. So-called social algorithms make choices
    on our behalf (based on our previous choices as well as other data)
    and decide what content we will be exposed to. In media
    organizations algorithms are often integrated into content
    management systems (CMS) and thus also affect how content is
    produced. In certain areas of journalism (notably sports journalism
    and financial journalism) algorithms can even create news articles.
    The PhD student’s dissertation research will be part of this project
    and must have a clear connection to or relevance for the overall
    project.
