journalism, Queensland University of Technology, Brisbane.*

*About the Position*
We are seeking a Research Associate to work on our recently-awarded ARC
Discovery Project titled *Journalism Beyond the Crisis: emerging forms,
practices and uses*. Administered within the Faculty’s Digital Media
Research Centre, this international collaborative project is led by
Professor Brian McNair, in partnership with Axel Bruns, Folker Hanusch,
Tamara Witschge, Mark Deuze and Christoph Neuberger.
The project will examine the evolution of journalism and fact-based
content forms in the emerging globalised public sphere. It will employ
interview, survey and social media analytics methods to assess the
future of journalism 'beyond the crisis', and to consider the impacts of
journalistic evolution on culture and politics. It will also impact on
journalism education and training by providing greater understanding of
current trends in journalistic production and usage.
The successful applicant will be supervised by Prof Brian McNair. Key
Responsibilities include:
• Undertake high quality academic research in collaboration with other
research staff and under the supervision of the lead Chief Investigator
• Provide regular written and verbal reports and undertake associated
administrative functions, including some day-to-day operational
management of the research project
• Prepare papers, articles and reports in a range of academic
publications, including journals, monographs and conference proceedings.
• Mentor casual Research Assistants to provide direction and advice in
the completion of specific project tasks, including preparation of
academic publications.
• Prepare and present project findings, particularly for the project
website and for local research seminars and events.

*Type of appointment*
This appointment will be offered on a fixed-term, full-time basis for
two (2) years.

*Selection Criteria*
1. Completed PhD in a relevant discipline or equivalent research experience.
2. Proven experience in one or more of the following: journalism
studies, media studies or communication
3. Proven ability and commitment to conduct high quality research and
experience to undertake the project brief under flexible supervision
4. Demonstrated high level written communication skills with a proven
track record of preparing and publishing results in papers, articles and
reports in a range of academic or industry publications, including
journals, monographs or conference proceedings.
5. Ability to present research findings to and maintain effective
working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders

*Desirable*
1. Previous experience in leading project teams, including final
acquittal of research projects.

The classification for this position is Academic Level B which has an
annual salary range of 79,135.56€93,982.62€. to

*About the Ph.D scholarship*

This project will examine the evolution of journalism and fact-based

*Your role in the project*
Under the supervision of Professors Brian McNair and Folker Hanusch, you
will complement others in the project team by focusing on Australian
perspectives. You'll use a range of qualitative content analysis and
social media analytics, interview and survey methods to track the
evolution of fact-based online media sites based in Australia, as well
as transnational and global outlets available in Australia. You will
explore emerging content production processes, and producer-user
interactions, as well as the relationship between new and established
providers of fact-based content. The precise mix of methods and research
questions you adopt will be agreed on award, based on your expertise and
interests. You'll provide some research assistance to the research team,
as well as co-publish with them.

*Expected outcomes*
This PhD scholarship will help to build your career and capacity as a
researcher, including publication and conference presentation. In a
period of rapid change in the Australian and global journalism sphere,
your research will make a substantial contribution to scholarly
understanding of how news culture is evolving, and how those changes may
impact on the relationship between journalism and society in the digital
age.
