Call for Book Chapters Mediated Critical Communication PedagogyAhmet
Atay and Deanna L. Fassett
This collection explores the role of both traditional and new media in
critical communication pedagogy. Critical communication pedagogy
serves as a framework for the diverse work that takes a critical lens
to issues of communication in pedagogical contexts (Warren, 2009, p.
213). In particular, we seek chapters that address not only how new and
other forms of media serve as tools towards social justice in the
communication classroom, but also how those media transform the
classroom interaction itself in empowering and disempowering ways.
Authors may describe and assess particular instances of media use
(particularly the use of new media technologies) as supporting or
challenging critical communication pedagogy (i.e., how to effectively
use a particular medium in the classroom, instances of critical
communication pedagogy as teaching); they may also engage in critical
analysis of how classroom communication is affected by uses of new media
(i.e., exploration of critical communication pedagogy as research).
Possible topics include:
*
Critical communication pedagogy in the context of new media
*
How dialogue and interactivity are altered in the mediated classroom
*
How the mediated classroom takes up social justice and social change
beyond the classroom
*
How and why teachers embrace new media in the classroom
*
Best practices in new media use in communication classrooms that
embrace critical approaches
*
Issues of access and inclusion with respect to media use in the
communication classroom
*
Assessment of new media in the critical communication classroom
