[ecrea] Call for Papers: 9th International Central and East European Media Conference (CEECOM)

Tue Dec 22 19:40:40 GMT 2015

9th International Central and East European Media Conference
Media and Communication Studies: bridging disciplines, bridging countries
University of Tartu, Estonia
16th – 18th of June 2016

Contemporary developments in science and education policy signal that
media and communications studies could play a central role in linking
various disciplines and fields of science by helping to create new
understanding about the current processes in society and by offering
solutions to various problems that individuals and societies are
facing today.

Therefore the 9th CEECOM conference will provide forum to exchange
ideas and experiences on inter- and transdisciplinary approaches in
media and communication studies.

There are several topics that are common to all countries – one could
even say that some topics create bridges across countries. Therefore
the conference will provide forum to discuss how to carry out
(comparative) research on same topics in different countries with
different cultural and socio-economic background. Can we ask: to what
extent the media and communication cultures in CEE countries are
comparable?

Start-up research sessions
In addition to traditional research papers there will be a call for
“Start-up research session”. Researchers are asked to submit extended
abstracts concerning ideas and suggestions about innovative
interdisciplinary approaches (ideas, questions, methods, samples,
possible obstacles) to find like-minded potential colleagues and to
offer new directions for future research.

Submitting an abstract
Individual paper proposals addressed to one of the proposed topics
should mention this in the proposal (other topics on CEE issues are
welcome as well). Abstracts (200–400 words) will be evaluated by at
least two members of the Scientific Committee.
Deadline for call for abstracts is 8th of January 2016.
Extended abstracts (600–1300 words) deadline is 30th of April.

SUBMIT AN ABSTRACT

Submitting a panel proposal
Panel proposals of 300–500 words should include the rationale and
title of proposed panel, and name & affiliation of the Chair/Moderator
and up to five members of the panel, and brief abstracts (150 words)
for each participant’s contribution. Please enter the panel
submissions the same way as paper submissions, include all the above,
but start the title with the word PANEL. Please include names, emails
and affiliations of panel participants in the same entry with their
contributions, and the name and contact of the panel chair in the
authors' information in the Easychair system.

Call for start-up research session abstracts
In addition to traditional research papers there will be a call for
“Start-up research session”. Researchers are asked to submit extended
abstracts (400 words) concerning ideas and suggestions about
innovative interdisciplinary approaches (ideas, questions, methods,
samples, possible obstacles) to find like-minded potential colleagues
and to offer new directions for future research.

Co-authored proposals are accepted, including those written by master
students and their academic supervisors. The participants are invited
to register and to submit original papers and panels. No more than two
submissions by one author can be accepted (including combinations of
panels and individual papers).

Important dates
