[ecrea] Call for Open Review of Social Media in the Anthropocene

Mon Oct 26 22:52:49 GMT 2015

Call for Open Review of Social Media in the Anthropocene

Both social media and the Anthropocene are mediums that challenge norms of scholarly practice, disciplinary boundaries and in this case the review process. We invite you to the Open Review of contributions for the upcoming special-issue on “Social Media in the Anthropocene”. The issue is an experiment curated by the KTH Environmental Humanities Laboratory, to be published 2016 in Resilience: A Journal of the Environmental Humanities.

“Social Media in the Anthropocene” seeks to make two moves in the same issue. The first is to engage with the multifaceted concept of ‘Anthropocene’, building on the conversations of the Anthropocene Campus at Haus der Kulturen der Welt and has also been joined by additional scholars interested in social media. The second move is to explore the implication of social media for the nature and impact of the ‘Anthropocene’. Thus the intersection of social media and the concept of ‘Anthropocene’ informs both the content of the special issue, and the process of knowledge production and dissemination in which it participates.

You receive this request as scholars and Anthropocene inquirers and we ask that you be part of the Open Review by which the contributions are assessed. The Open Review adopts the format of social media itself, e.g. posting, sharing, commenting and re-posting, as part of the review process itself.

As reviewer, you will receive the Open Review schedule where you will be assigned one text for close reading and the rest are for extensive reading according to your time and interest in these.

The texts will be available for review for 24 hours only, after which the Open Review moves on to the next text. You can make annotations and comments directly in the text and authors will be available to respond. The Open Review is non-anonymous. Editors will ensure that comments focus on content, ad hominem-offences result in banning.

To join as reviewer, email: (tom.buurman /at/ ims.su.se)
The Open Review Schedule is announced 5 November
The Open Review is planned for 23 November - 4 December

Feel free to contact us for any questions regarding the Open Review and the special-issue. We look forward to working with you,
