Tenure Track Assistant / Associate position in Strategic Communication at University of Hawai'i



Assistant or Associate Professor in Strategic Communication: Position No.
82294, University of Hawaiʻi, College of Social Sciences, School of
Communications, permanent, general funds, full-time, 9-month, tenure-track
appointment, to begin August 1, 2015, subject to position clearance and
availability of funds



Duties:



Teach courses in strategic communications with a focus on organizational
communication and public relations at both the undergraduate and graduate
levels, as well as additional communication courses such as introduction to
communication, capstone in communication in communities, and communication
theory. Supervise Communication MA and interdisciplinary Communication and
Information Sciences (CIS) PhD students; share in academic advising of
undergraduate students, including student club (PRSSA) and seek extramural
funding; publish scholarly, peer-reviewed research in areas of expertise;
and provide service to the department, university, and community.



Minimum Qualifications:



Assistant Professor: PhD in Communication or related field from an
accredited college, university or foreign equivalent completed by date of
hire. Demonstrated ability to teach graduate and undergraduate courses
related to strategic communications, such as public relations and
organizational communications. Expertise in digital media, digital
communication or strategic digital communication. Demonstrated potential
for/or established national reputation in strategic communication,
particularly in public relations and organizational communications, as
evidenced by peer-reviewed publications.



Associate Professor: In addition to the Assistant Professor as stated
above, minimum of four (4) years of full-time college or university
teaching at the rank of Assistant Professor with evidence of increasing
professional maturity; documentation of high quality teaching performance,
scholarly achievement judged competent and adequate for rank in comparison
with peers active in the same field at major research universities;
continued evidence of participation in the scholarly and academic affairs
of a university.



Desirable Qualifications:



Demonstrated research interest in Hawaiʻi and/or the Asia-Pacific region.
Ability to teach graduate courses in communication theory and research
methods. Ability to teach large, introductory courses related to
communication. Evidence of ability to generate extramural funding.



Salary Range: Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.
