AHRC funding for UK/EU Arts and Humanities Research Students

The White Rose College of the Arts&  Humanities (WRoCAH) is a Doctoral Training Partnership of the Universities of Leeds, Sheffield and York. It is responsible for the distribution of AHRC-funded studentships for these universities and for the coordination of a doctoral training programme.  WRoCAH is able to offer over 50 AHRC studentships per year to candidates with a place for doctoral study at the Universities of Leeds, Sheffield or York.

The Department of Theatre, Film&  Television and The Department of English at the University of York are inviting applications from students interested in researching in any of the following areas of film and television studies.

In the Department of Theatre, Film&  Television:
•	Early Cinema
•	Silent Cinema
•	Adaptation
•	Film Theory
•	American Film and Television
•	British Film and Television
•	Scottish Cinema
•	New Zealand Cinema
•	Emotion and Affect in Film and/or Television
•	English Heritage and Cinema
•	European Television and Cinema
•	Moving Image Policy and Institutions
•	Anglia Television and the History of ITV
•	National/Transnational Cinemas
•	Film and Television Production Studies
•	Northern Stories in Film and Television
•	History of Cinematography

In the Department of English:
•	Early Cinema/Silent Cinema
•	Pre-Cinema
•	Shakespearean performance histories (stage and screen)
•	Screen histories of myths and fairytales
•	Film and literature (through adaptation and other forms of encounter)
•	Film amongst the other others (music, literature, painting, theatre etc)
•	The history and aesthetics of American Independent film 1945-1979
•	Post-War European art cinema in its political context 1945 -1979
•	Politics in Hollywood during the HUAC period, 1945-1960
•	Film, theatre and cultural policy in occupied Germany 1945-1955 (an archive-based project)

Applicants for an AHRC studentship with WRoCAH must have applied for a place of study in an eligible department and may only apply for funding at one of the three partnership universities of Leeds, Sheffield or York.
