[ecrea] Communication and media temporary job opportunity

My department may be looking for some additional teaching cover during
the coming academic session. What follows is a description of the kind
of workload that we envisage. The post will be full time, at Grade 7
(i.e., a junior appointment) starting in September 2015.

SECOND/THIRD YEAR UNDERGRADUATE TEACHING

In Semester One or Semester Two, the appointee will be asked to design
and run a new module in media writing in second year for approximately
40 students. ‘Media writing’ is to be interpreted broadly. It could mean
forms of journalistic writing (though note that we do not run journalism
degrees as such), or screenwriting, or other kinds of professional
writing skills, to complement a suite of existing modules with a
primarily academic focus.

FIRST YEAR UNDERGRADUATE TEACHING

In Semester One, the appointee will make a significant contribution to
compulsory first year undergraduate teaching (seminar support and marking).

In Semester Two, he or she will make a more substantial contribution to
a module called News Media and the Everyday (up to half of all lectures,
seminars, marking and other duties). Details of these two modules can be

There will be additional teaching, supervision and administrative duties
to be negotiated with the successful applicant. This may include an
additional second/third year module that fits with the existing
curriculum, and/or the sharing of existing modules.
