MECO offers a suite of outstanding degrees and programs of study, including:


· a prestigious four year undergraduate degree, offering a unique combination of humanities education with vocational preparation for a career in the media and communications industry

MECO has excellent media production facilities, including television and radio studios, and is supported by a digital media unit (DMU). It benefits from high quality research infrastructure and support as well as established interdisciplinary links and projects with outstanding researchers at the University working on media and communication from disciplines such as gender and cultural studies, politics, human rights, sociology, law, business, science and technology, health and medicine, and area studies, especially in Asia, the Americas, and Europe.

In this exciting lectureship opportunity, you will:


· teach curriculum for undergraduate and postgraduate courses in media relations, and corporate and political public relations

· provide leadership in curriculum development, including online and blended coursework delivery

· contribute to the research strengths of the school, including publishing regularly in journals of high ranking and other quality outlets, and applying for research grants

· supervise higher degree research students as well as honours and masters dissertation students

· develop effective interdisciplinary collaborations within the University across the academic field and with external stakeholders

· engage with the media and public relations industry, professions and interested publics

·         contribute to academic administration.

To be the successful candidate you will need:


· a PhD with a focus on media and public relations or strategic communications

· teaching experience at tertiary level in media and public relations

· proven expertise, knowledge and high level research ability in the academic field of media and public relations

· evidence of your ability to undertake academic administrative responsibilities

· the ability to work in a collegial and effective manner with a broad range of colleagues, students and external stakeholders from diverse cultural and professional backgrounds

· a demonstrated capacity for engagement in cultural and industry debates regarding media and public relations

· a clear vision of the role of media and public relations in contemporary society and their changing landscapes together with an understanding of industry practices in public relations

· proven professional expertise in corporate or political public relations.

The successful applicant will join a vibrant and collegial department accommodated in recently refurbished office space with excellent teaching and research resources. You will have the opportunity to collaborate with world leaders in the field at such centres as the Sydney Democracy Network, Charles Perkins Centre, Government and International Relations, and International Security Studies as well as the South-East Asia Centre and the China Studies Centre.

The University of Sydney offers flexible working hours, supportive staff networks and generous superannuation.

Remuneration package: $110,802 p.a. (which includes a base salary of $93,629 p.a., leave loading and up to 17% employer’s contribution to superannuation).
