Industrial Approaches to Media: A Methodological Gateway to Industry Studies
http://www.nottingham.ac.uk/research/groups/isir/projects/industrial-approaches-to-media/index.aspx
Following the launch of Industrial Approaches to Media (IAM), a research
methods training initiative hosted by the Institute for Screen
Industries Research at the University of Nottingham, we are pleased to
announce the latest addition to the resource:
Paul McDonald (Professor of Cinema and Media Industries at the
University of Nottingham and Founder of the SCMS Media Industries
Scholarly Interest Group) discusses the sub-field of media industry
studies and considers its future development.
The above supports existing contributions from Henry Jenkins on the
practical implications of academia-industry collaboration, Michele
Hilmes on the changing approaches to media industry studies, and Amanda
Lotz on the current challenges facing media industry researchers.
IAM is aimed at postgraduate and early career researchers interested in
engaging with media industry professionals and companies to produce
collaborative research. The resource gathers blogs and interviews with
scholars exploring methodological perspectives on the value and
challenges of doing media industry studies and forming industry-academia
collaborations. For more information about IAM please contact Matthew
Freeman at (aaxmaf /at/ nottingham.ac.uk).
* A small number of spaces are still available to attend the IAM
research methods training event at the University of Nottingham on
Thursday 5th June. Bringing together media industry professionals and
established academics, the event will be comprised of presentations and
workshops covering practical and theoretical topics on: Interviewing
Media Professionals, Knowledge Transfer between Media and Academia, and
The Ethics and Politics of Media Engagement.
To register your attendance please contact Matthew Freeman
((aaxmaf /at/ nottingham.ac.uk)).
Lunch and a wine reception will also be provided. The event is free but
places are limited.
