Preparations for this year’s Deutsche Welle Global Media Forum are picking up pace. In cooperation with partner organizations around the world, approximately 40 workshops are in planning. They’ll address a wide range of up-to-date topics relating to data security and civic participation, the role of whistleblowers, online networking and the future of journalism.

Top-notch expertise

On June 30, Thorbjørn Jagland, a prominent international figure, will kick off the main event with a keynote address. Well known as the current Secretary-General of the Council of Europe and Chairman of the Nobel Peace Prize Committee, he spoke to DW about this year’s conference theme. "Only by guaranteeing the protection and respect for human rights – online and offline – will people trust and feel confident in a hyper-connected world. As technology gallops ahead clear rules are needed."

Current debate

The "Transatlantic Talk" on the second day of the conference promises to
be particularly relevant in light of the U.S. National Security
Agency’s international surveillance activities. The event will focus on
the political and economic tensions between the United States and
Europe. Political, business and media experts will address the current
crisis in transatlantic relations.

With your participation, we look forward to another exciting and memorable conference - and to building on the mounting success of the media congress over the past several years. We look forward to seeing you at the conference in June.
Best regards,
Your GMF Team
