The Department

The Department of Media and Communications at Goldsmiths is one of the
UK’s leaders in the field of media theory and media practice. The
theoretical and empirical research of our staff is recognised as having
been at the forefront of media and cultural studies for the past two
decades, and is the focus of a thriving research and postgraduate
community. The 2008 RAE exercise placed Goldsmiths’ Media and
Communications Department among the top four in the country for this
subject area. Eighty percent of work submitted fell within the two
highest bands - that is to say ‘World Leading’ and ‘Internationally
Excellent’.

Goldsmiths is a lively and challenging place to do a Media and
Communications degree and one that recognises the importance of
supporting learning with high quality teaching. We were awarded an
excellent mark (22/24) by a team from the national Quality Assurance
Agency, whose task it is to assess teaching and learning in
universities. This is one of the best marks awarded to a Media and
Communications Department in Britain.

We currently offer the following range of programmes:
Five Degree Programmes
Sixteen Masters Programmes (Practice and Theory)
An MPhil/PhD Programme
