Postdoctoral Research Fellow, Institute for Culture and Society

The Institute for Culture and Society is looking to appoint a 
Postdoctoral Research Fellow in association with the Young and Well 
project, Safe and Well Online: Researching social communications in the 
promotion of young people’s safety and wellbeing. This is one of several 
major research projects hosted at ICS being delivered in collaboration 
with the Young and Well Cooperative Research Centre. The position is for 
a three-year fixed term contract.
About the Research Project: Safe and Well Online

This five-year project will study the most effective ways to design, 
deliver and evaluate online social marketing campaigns aimed at 
improving safety and wellbeing. It considers the increasingly important 
role of social media and communication strategies to promote the safety 
and wellbeing of young people. In the context of increasingly complex 
systems of socio-cultural mediated communication, policy imperatives, 
and a plethora of programs and interventions, there is a need to 
consider what an effective youth-centred approach would look like and 
how this can be delivered in the evolving media ecology. Furthermore, 
what knowledge practices shape cross-sector, interdisciplinary and 
inter-generational research to inform how social communications can 
promote young people’s safety and wellbeing? The Postdoctoral Fellow 
will design, elaborate and deliver the stakeholder research program – 
bringing over 12 major Australian sector partners and stakeholders, 
young people, researchers and digital strategists together in 
interesting and innovative ways that explore conceptions, practices and 
concerns related to youth digital practice.
Position details

To apply for this position you must have completed a PhD qualification 
in Humanities, Arts or Social Sciences or a related discipline; with a 
demonstrated research record in an area relevant to the Research 
Project: Online Safety and Wellbeing and one or more aspects of the 
relevant ICS research program.

The position will be based at Parramatta campus, University of Western 
Sydney.

The successful candidate will be required to undergo a Working with 
Children Check.

Remuneration Package: Academic Level A $91,289 to $96,851 p.a. 
(comprising Salary $77,140 to $81,840 p.a., 17% Superannuation, and 
Leave Loading)
