[ecrea] ‘Music and Digitisation: Intellectual Property, Piracy, and Cultural Heritage’: a workshop

Wed Dec 05 10:03:19 GMT 2012

The European Research Council-funded ‘Music, Digitisation, Mediation’
Research Programme led by Prof. Georgina Born at the University of
Oxford invites applications to participate in a one-day workshop on
the topic ‘Music and Digitisation: Intellectual Property, Piracy, and
Cultural Heritage’. The workshop will be held on Saturday 12th January
2013 at the Ertegun House, St. Giles, Oxford.

The workshop arises out of a desire by the research team to engage
with scholars from an array of disciplines as we analyse IP-related
findings from ethnographic fieldwork carried out in Argentina, Canada,
Cuba, India, Kenya and the UK. It aims to bring together
anthropologists, ethno/musicologists and legal scholars to examine how
digital technologies and digitisation are transforming discourses and
practices of musical propertisation around the world. The workshop
will be informal and intensive, centred on presentations by the
research team and certain invited guests.

We invite statements of interest from interested academics, post docs
and doctoral students from any discipline working on subjects adjacent
to the workshop topic. There is no fee to attend the workshop;
however, we cannot offer funding for travel and accommodation. If you
would like to attend, please send your contact information and a short
paragraph (c. 100 words) on how your research aligns with the workshop
theme by 17th December to Dr. Aditi Deo (deo.adi at gmail.com). Please
use the subject line ‘Workshop on Intellectual Property: Statement of
Interest’. We expect to get back to you within the following week.
Please note that we have limited space and may not be able to invite
all applicants.

Speakers include: Geoff Baker (RHUL/Oxford), Jose Bellido (Birkbeck)
Lionel Bently (Cambridge), Georgina Born (Oxford), Aditi Deo (Oxford),
Mireille van Eechoud (Amsterdam), Andrew Eisenberg (Oxford), Veit
Erlmann (University of Texas, Austin), Alexandrine Fournier
(University of Victoria), Haidy Gaismar (UCL/NYU), Mike Rowlands
(UCL), Jason Stanyek (Oxford), Henry Stobart (RHUL).
