[ecrea] Gender, Media and Generation - CFP and Postgraduate Workshop Announcement

Please find below, a call for papers for CHASE postgraduate scholars
researching in the field of gender, media and age. The call for papers
is open to all postgraduate researchers at CHASE institutions
(Courtauld, Essex, Goldsmiths, Kent, the OU, Sussex and the UEA) and the
workshop is open to all (details of registration can be found below).
The aim of the workshop is to showcase the excellent research that is
being undertaken by researchers at CHASE institutions, fostering
conversations between researchers concerned primarily with the media and
those focused on audiences and/or representations of male, female,
transgender, and queer people of differing ages and generations.
The workshop, which will feature keynote speakers Professor Beverley
Skeggs (Goldsmiths) and Professor Yvonne Tasker (UEA), will be held at
the Open University in Camden, London, on Friday 25th January 2013.
Topics of presentation could include, but are by no means limited to:
· Gendered representations of aging
· Tweens as audiences
· Young people and media effects
Representations of boyhood and/or girlhood
· Middle-aged women as media audiences
· Trans- teenagers on television.
· Nostalgia and music consumption
· New media and ageing audiences.
· Experiences of age and gender within subcultures.
Or indeed any combination of the above!
Please send a 200 word abstract and a short bio to (v.cann /at/ uea.ac.uk), the
deadline for receiving abstracts is 7th December 2012. Please note that
those wishing to present must be affiliated with a CHASE consortium
institution (Courtauld, Essex, Goldsmiths, Kent, the OU, Sussex and the
UEA).

will be open to all, places are very limited and early registration will
be open to CHASE postgraduate researchers from 7th November and all
