â?¢ Organizers have begun setting the stage for
the Deutsche Welle Global Media Forum
2013.
â?¢ Next year's conference will feature a ceremony
celebrating Deutsche Welle's 60th anniversary.
â?¢ The successful 2012 Deutsche Welle Global
Media Forum in review.
The next Deutsche Welle Global Media Forum will take place from June
17-19, 2013, in Bonn, Germany. The conference will focus on "The Future
of Growth - Economic Values and the Media". Initial information is
available online at www.dw-gmf.de.
Following on the success of this year's Deutsche Welle Global Media
Forum, the three-day international congress slated for June will once
again feature more than 50 workshops and podium discussions. In light
of the huge challenges facing the world economy, concepts such as an
energy turnaround, green economies, social justice and environmental
responsibility are driving the debate about the economic future. The
media play a significant role within that context. On the one hand they
are to deliver information and knowledge to broadly educate and
sensitize the general public. On the other hand, they are expected to be
watchdogs, spotlighting problems and holding those responsible
accountable for their actions. By bringing together experts from
politics, business, finance, culture, academia, civil society and the
media, the Deutsche Welle Global Media Forum provides a unique,
interdisciplinary platform for dialogue.
The 2013 conference will kick-off with a special ceremony to mark the
60th anniversary of Germany's international broadcaster. Deutsche Welle
first went on air on May 3, 1953.
The facts and figures from the 2012 event - which focused on the role of
education, culture and the media in shaping a sustainable world - are a
testimony to the ever growing popularity of this annual conference
series. More than 2,000 people from 115 nations and representing 600
organizations attended. Of the 487 media professionals who participated,
338 were from countries other than Germany. The feedback from a survey
conducted at the end of the conference was overwhelmingly positive. The
Friedrich Naumann Foundation speaks for many when it says the Deutsche
Welle Global Media Forum long ago secured itself a "fixed spot in the
calendar of international media conferences".
With your help, we'd like to build on that success at the next Deutsche
Welle Global Media Forum
"The Future of Growth - Economic Values and the Media", June 17-19 2013.
The Global Media Forum is co-hosted by the Foundation for International
Dialogue of the Sparkasse in Bonn. The convention is also supported by
the German Federal Foreign Office and the city of Bonn.
