PROFESSOR/ ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR/ SENIOR LECTURER IN MEDIA STUDIES,
FACULTY OF HUMANITIES, UNIVERSITY OF BOTSWANA

Duties: The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching Undergraduate courses in Media Theory, including cinema, and at least three out of: media management, gender representation, history, media monitoring and research methods. Candidates would also be expected to teach at post-graduate level when post-graduate programmes are introduced. It will be a strong advantage if s/he can also teach practical aspects of journalism and/or video. The candidate will be expected to contribute to the academic standing and good reputation of the Department of Media Studies by engaging in research, publications and external professional activities.

Requirements: At Senior Lecturer level candidates should have (i) a Masters, or preferably a PhD, in Media Studies, Communication or a related field; (ii) at least 3 years University teaching experience after a PhD; (iii) a cumulative and sustained record of research and publications; (iv) a minimum of 6 pieces of published creative or research products in Media or related subjects, at least 4 of which are refereed journal articles; (v) a proven record of academic leadership in teaching, research and administration. The curriculum vitae should contain a detailed list of published works, clearly specifying titles of publications, dates published, names of publishers, name/s of co-authors if any and number of pages. The works should be categorized into books, refereed and non-refereed works, conference papers, consultancies and practical media creative works.

At Associate Professor level candidates should have (i) a Masters or preferably a PhD, in Media Studies, journalism or a related field; (ii) at least 5 years experience after a PhD, preferably including post-graduate teaching; (iii) a cumulative and sustained record of research and publications; (iv) a minimum of 12 pieces of creative or published research products in Media or related subjects, at least 8 of which are refereed journal articles; (v) a proven record of academic leadership in teaching, research and administration. The curriculum vitae should contain a detailed list of published works, clearly specifying titles of publications, dates published, names of publishers, name/s of co-authors if any and number of pages. The works should be categorized into books, refereed and non-refereed works, creative works, conference papers, consultancies and practical media creative works.

At Professor level candidates should have (i) a PhD, in Media Studies, journalism or a related field; (ii) at least 8 years teaching experience after a PhD, preferably including post-graduate teaching; (iii) a cumulative and sustained record of research and publications; (iv) a minimum of 24 pieces of published research products in Media or related subjects, at least 12 of which are refereed journal articles; (v) a proven record of academic leadership in teaching, research and administration. The curriculum vitae should contain a detailed list of published works, clearly specifying titles of publications, dates published, names of publishers, name/s of co-authors if any and number of pages. The works should be categorized into books, refereed and non-refereed works, creative works, conference papers, consultancies and practical media projects. For all 3 levels professional experience in a media industry would be an added advantage.
