[ecrea] CFP Journal of Italian Cinema and Media Studies

Tue Jul 24 12:50:18 GMT 2012

The /Journal of Italian Cinema and Media Studies/ is seeking contributions in these areas:

* Italian Translocal Cinema and Media*

* *Within the realm of a post-national and trans-cultural debate, the purpose of this panel is to refer to Italy as the unifying geo-cultural site for a contemporary discussion on translocal cinema. Contributions will elaborate a multifaceted definition of Italian cinema, transcending geo-ethnic land and sea borders and moving away from merely celebratory local cinematic experiences. This reconfigured collocation and reassessed connotation of Italian film and media will be examined through the artistic production of filmmakers and media practitioners working within and outside the country.

* Beyond Mainstream Italian Cinema*

The journal aims to bring academic attention to Italian film productions outside the realm of commercial cinema. Submissions will engage in a critical debate on independent and experimental film, new digital media, web-based visual texts, electronic games, advertizing, the development of innovative trans-media and cross-media narratives, video- installation art, short films, long/short feature/documentary animation.

*Foreign Directors and Productions in Italy*

The* *Italian Film Commission (IFC) is a division of the Italian Trade Commission (ITC) and operates as the promotional office for the audiovisual industry. Woody Allen's 2012 feature /To Rome with Love/ indicates continued interest and fascination for Italy as the ideal cinematic set. Even before the institution of the IFC, Italy was the preferred location for numerous international productions. The history of world cinema is rich of foreign films set in Italy, including, but not limited to Hollywood filmmakers. Submissions will explore the artistic work of international directors in Italy in all periods and genres.

*Professionals in the Italian Film Industry *

The journal intends to promote, stimulate and bring together current research and contemporary debates on the contributions of film industry professionals, an area which has been somewhat neglected in academic discourse. Articles on the work of screenplay writers, art directors, cinematographers, film editors, sound engineers, costume designers and make-up artists in Italian cinema will help redress this imbalance while encouraging further research.

These films were designed to serve a specific pragmatic purpose for a limited time. The genre is composed of advertising <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Advertising> films, educational films <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Educational_film>, industrial videos <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Industrial_video>, training films <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Training_film>, social guidance films <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Social_guidance_film>, and government-produced films.
