*Tier 2 Canada Research Chair in Digital Media and Innovation*
Ryerson University invites applications for a Tier 2 Canada Research
Chair in Digital Media and Innovation. The Canada Research Chairs
program was established by the Government of Canada to enable Canadian
universities to achieve the highest levels of research excellence in the
global, knowledge-based economy. Tier 2 Chairs have five year terms,
once renewable, and are intended for exceptional emerging researchers
(less than 10 years post-PhD) who have the acknowledged potential to
lead their research field. Information about the CRC program can be
found at www.chairs.gc.ca <http://www.chairs.gc.ca>.
Located in downtown Toronto, Ryerson University is known for innovative
programs built on the interaction of theoretical and practically
oriented learning. Close to 100 undergraduate, graduate and
doctoral-level programs, distinguished by a strong emphasis on
excellence in teaching, research and creative activities, are offered to
approximately 28,000 students. Guided by a bold new Academic Plan, an
ambitious research agenda, and a recent Master Plan to revitalize the
campus and surrounding neighbourhood, Ryerson is a comprehensive
university with a significant profile in higher education, and a strong
reputation with national business, government, community, and industrial
leaders. For more information, please visit www.ryerson.ca
<http://www.ryerson.ca>.
Digital Media is among Ryerson’s most important areas of research and
innovation activity, and is becoming increasingly important to its
entrepreneurial culture. There are several research chairs related to
digital media, including two Tier 1 Canada Research Chairs and Canada’s
only two research chairs on media innovation. A wide range of
specialized centres and labs undertake related industry-led research,
while industry, government and academic organizations from around Canada
and the world have visited the Digital Media Zone (DMZ), a student
driven incubator in the heart of Toronto.
The successful candidate will have an original, innovative and high
quality research program that fits with an emphasis on digital media
innovation. Areas of research may include: digital innovation processes,
measurement and policies; digital technologies and their dissemination
and adoption; digital entrepreneurship; transmedia and digital content
creation; and policy and social context issues such as privacy, security
and cybercrime. He/she will be well-established both in terms of top
tier publications and research funding with a broadly critical
orientation and the capacity to engage in collaborative research
programs within this highly cross-disciplinary field. Candidates will be
expected to establish a strong research program, contribute to multiple
programmatic areas, teach at the undergraduate and/or graduate level and
advise graduate students. The successful candidate will be appointed at
the Assistant or Associate Professor rank and will help to shape
Ryerson’s planned Masters Program in Digital Media.
Ryerson University is strongly committed to fostering diversity within
our community. We welcome those who would contribute to the further
diversification of our staff, our faculty, and its scholarship
including, but not limited to, women, visible minorities, Aboriginal
people, persons with disabilities, and persons of any sexual orientation
or gender identity.
Applications should include a letter of interest (incorporating a record
of teaching effectiveness and a brief (1-2 page) five year research
program plan), curriculum vitae, and the names of three references (who
will not be contacted without consent of the candidate), and may be
forwarded electronically, in confidence, until August 15^th , to:
