PhD Candidate&  Research Assistant Position in Media Policy and Media
Economy (GZ A 0062/1-2012)

The Media Policy and Media Economy Unit of the Department of
Communication Studies at the University of Salzburg is offering one
position of PhD Candidate and University Assistant
(Universitätsassistenten/in).

**Conditions
The position is open from October the 1st 2012. The contract requires
30 hours of work per week and stipulates a salary of 1899 euro gross
per month, 14 months per year (26.586 euro gross per year), for 4
years.

**Responsibilities
The PhD candidate is expected to support the research, teaching and
administrative activities of the Media Policy and Media Economy Unit.
From the third year on, the candidate is also expected to teach a
module for bachelor students (2 hours per week). Moreover, the
candidate will conduct research leading to the submission of a PhD
thesis in one (or more) of the following areas: Media structures in
Austria, Europe and beyond; national, European and/or global media
policy; media governance and alternative forms of media regulation;
political communication and the media, relationships between media
policy and media economy, structural impact of new communication
technologies.

**Requirements and Desired Skills
Applicants must have completed graduate or master studies in
Journalism and/or Communication Studies and/or Political Science.
Desirable additional skills include: knowledge of relevant literature
on media policy, communication structures, media economics, and
political communication; a master thesis and/or the publication of
scientific papers on one or more of the research areas specified
above. The ideal candidate would also have a very good command of
English. Command of the German language is an advantage, but not a
requirement. Non-German speaking candidates are expected to learn
German within two years.
