This book is intended to answer why it can be an opportunity to learn from the global economic crisis and to identify e-innovations, successful practices and policies using effectively ICTs and innovative electronic/mobile business models in order to promote sustainable development in rural areas through innovative exploitation of natural and rural resources in the context of employment, growth and competitiveness.

This book will review and synthesize the theory and research, putting emphasis on the practice of ICT, electronic and mobile innovations, applied in the corporate and public services, emerging technologies and economies, for sustainability and rural development.

Both researchers and practitioners are invited to share their experiences and discuss novel approaches and extensive case studies of effective applications withininnovative application of ICTs towards rural sustainable development and exploitation of natural resources challenging the economic recessionimpact can well contribute to the overall objectives of the book. Authors are encouraged to consider both the technical (e.g. informatics design) and functional (e.g. costs and effectiveness, contribution to processes, etc.) of the tools considered in their papers. This book can also bring researchers from a number of distinct disciplines together, in order to exchange experiences, improve their research results and facilitate their adoption by decision makers.
Recommended topics include, but are not limited to the following:
§ ICT adoption for sustainable development challenging the economic crisis,
§ E-m innovations,
§ emerging technologies,
§ e-services for sustainable rural development challenging the economic recession such innovative strategies, projects, tasks and initiatives and their applications on
o e-government, e-governance, open government
o e-business, business intelligence, Enterprise Information Systems & Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), e-commerce, e-marketing, ICT adoption in rural SMEs, Supply Chain Management, o technology enhanced learning and ICT Skills, e-learning, life-long training, etc,
o e-research,
o e-working,
o broadband, mobile, wireless and satellite apps, digital content and digital broadcast, § successful e-m innovation stories and case studies of sustainable rural development implementing innovative ICTs with beneficial results and implementations to the rural economies
o Experiences,
o views,
o ineffective management concepts to be avoided
§ ICT addressing societal challenges
o e-communities and social media,
o e-Participation, e-Inclusion, digital divide
o digital libraries and cultural heritage,
o sustainable environment,
plus a number of other relevant issues becoming more and more central points of the international research, especially at times of economic crisis as today.
There exist various topics in the literature on E-innovations, for example

- rural society topics and rural e-m inclusion tasks, e-m government and e-m governance adoption for rural areas within sustainability and their specific requirements within the economic crisis, e-m government efficiency issues, e-security in rural e-government services provision, legal, ethics and privacy issues in e-government strategic planning in rural areas. Information Society tasks such as broadband infrastructure, enhanced internet access, mobile, wireless and satellite apps, digital content and services. The Information Society constitutes a vital feature for sustainability as it distributes benefits to production, commerce, business, society and culture through useful content and services supplied to the citizens in the quantity and quality required.

- rural economy and growth with innovative apps on e-m services to support rural entrepreneurship and green strategy, supported by applications on e-m business, business intelligence, Enterprise Information Systems & Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), Supply Chain Management, reverse logistics, e-m commerce, e-m marketing, social media, e-working and generally regional SMEs adoption of e-services.

- enhancing education, research and training in all levels, e-learning, distance learning, life-long training, e-research and digital literacy for citizens in rural areas, improving quality of life with focus on environment, health and safety.
Submission Procedure

Researchers and practitioners are invited to submit by August 15th, 2012, a 2-3 page chapter proposal clearly explaining the mission and concerns of his or her proposed chapter. Authors of accepted proposals will be notified by September 5th, 2012 about the status of their proposals and sent chapter guidelines. Full chapters, are expected to be submitted by November 5th, 2012. All submitted chapters will be reviewed on a double-blind review basis. Contributors may also be requested to serve as reviewers for this project. This book is scheduled to be published by IGI Global (formerly Idea Group Inc.), publisher of the “Information Science Reference” (formerly Idea Group Reference), “Medical Information Science Reference,” “Business Science Reference,” and “Engineering Science Reference” imprints.
