‘New Directions in Media Research: Postgraduate Research Day’ - June 13th 2012

Dear Colleagues,



We invite PhD students in all years of study and at all stages of their research to attend this one day conference event titled ‘New Directions in Media Research: Postgraduate Research Day’ on 13th June 2012. We are pleased to announce that this is a free event for PhD students to attend and is funded by the Graduate School Researcher Development Fund and Department of Media and Communication at the University of Leicester. Places are limited and will be allocated on a first come first served basis, (please note that we are unable to provide any funding for travel or other expenses).



The conference aims to celebrate the diverse research interests held by PhD research students in the Department of Media and Communication, whilst also providing students with an opportunity to reach out and establish links with other researchers working in similar disciplines from other departments and universities. The Department of Media and Communication at the University of Leicester is based within the College of Social Sciences and has been at the forefront of media research since 1966 when it was established as the Centre for Mass Communications Research (CMCR). In 2006, CMCR evolved into the Department of Media and Communication as we celebrated 40 years of Media at Leicester. Research is still at the heart of the department with four active research groups: Digital Identities, News and Journalism, IDeoGRAMS and Cultural Production and Consumption. The Department supports and encourages a variety of research interests and approaches to the study of media, communications and information technologies.
